The Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women
“The Altar Guild”
“The angel came to the Myrrh-Bearing Women at the tomb and said:
Myrrh is fitting for the dead.
But Christ has shown Himself a stranger to corruption!
So proclaim: The Lord is risen, granting the world great mercy!”
The Myrrh Bearing women of St. Peter Orthodox Church who serve our Lord through the Altar Guild are a group of women “dedicated to Christ” showing their unwavering love of the Lord by caring for His Church–with reverence and joy– proclaiming that the Lord is risen.
Our Altar Guild encourages women of all ages, both children and adults, who have a desire to serve our Lord through this most holy ministry, as did the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women who provided and cared for the Lord and His disciples during His earthly ministry.
For His sake, the Holy Myrrh-Bearers aided the poor, the sick, and the suffering. During His suffering and death on the Cross, even when most of the apostles had run away in fear, they did not abandon their Saviour. They stood at Golgotha and, with their presence, helped ease the unbearable pain and suffering of the All Pure Mother of God. They did not abandon the Lord even after His death and burial. They went to His tomb early in the morning with myrrh to anoint His precious body and offer their final respects. They found His tomb empty, and upon hearing the joyful news from the Angel, were commissioned to go and tell the Apostles that their Lord had risen!
The St. Peter Altar Guild strives to follow in the footsteps of our most Holy Myrrh-Bearing sisters in service to our Lord and His Church, and we look forward to answering any questions you might have regarding this wonderful opportunity to serve the Lord.
